Discern

Any movement of God is always preceded by a time of prayer and discernment. Before our congregation makes this important decision about the future of our church, we, too, need to spend time with God, seeking His strength and wisdom. We hope you will faithfully join us as we discern a way forward.

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Since the summer of 2024, a Denominational Discernment Team comprised of clergy and lay leaders have studied the best options for future affiliation following disaffiliation from The United Methodist Church in 2023. Throughout this process, the goal has been to preserve Buncombe Street’s ministries while also studying the most effective ways to enhance and advance the Kingdom in the coming decades.

After careful consideration, the Team, clergy and Church Council support the recommendation of affiliation with the Global Methodist Church (GMC). Buncombe Street members are being called to a churchwide vote to ratify this recommendation on February 9, 2025.

CONGREGATIONAL VOTE

A congregational vote will take place on Sunday, February 9. Voting will be available during worship and the Sunday School hour in the Truluck Dining Room (8:30 AM – 1:00 PM).  Voting will be available until one hour after the Table service ends. This vote is for members only and will either confirm or reject the recommendation to join the Global Methodist Church.  A simple majority is required to pass.
