Education Earnings Through the Endowment

Because of the Hazel Meagley Music Fund of the BSUMC Endowment, two BJU organ students will have some scholarship money to assist them when they head back to school. Noah Vancina and Stephen Whited are the recipients of scholarships to further their study of the pipe organ.

Noah Vancina began studying music at the age of nine, his first instrument being the violin. He began playing the organ at thirteen, and has studied with Mrs. Jodi Shaleen and Dr. Timothy Nelson. Throughout high school he was the main organist at his church, was involved in the performance of several major oratorios, and held principle positions in his orchestra. Currently he is a Keyboard Performance major at Bob Jones University, where Dr. Ed Dunbar is his teacher. Besides music, he enjoys reading, linguistics, and hiking.

Some words from Stephen Whited: “I was born in Lima, Ohio. I attended school at the Lima Christian Academy where I took piano lessons for nine years. In 2012, I started taking organ lessons at my school. I continued to take organ lessons for two years. I had already been playing piano in church for several years. After three months of organ lessons, I began playing the organ for services as well. I have been playing in services ever since. I also joined the Lima Area Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. As a student member in this organization, I have faithfully attended the meetings and have even had the privilege of hosting a couple of them. I am currently attending Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. I am majoring in Theatre Arts and minoring in Organ. I hope to use what I learn from my organ lessons to continue to bring glory to God as I incorporate the gift He has given me.”
