Visitor FAQs

When does Sunday worship start, and how long does it last?

Our Downtown Campus offers a Chapel service at 8:45 AM in Memorial Chapel, a Traditional service at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary, and a contemporary service, The Table, at 11:00 AM in Sisk Hall. Our Trinity Campus offers a traditional service at 11:00 AM. All of our services are approximately an hour long.

What should I wear?

You will see a mix of styles at Buncombe Street, with our contemporary services tending more toward the casual and our traditional services being somewhat more formal. On any given Sunday, you will see people wearing everything from jeans to business suits, and all styles of dress are accepted in any service.

Do I have to give to the offering?

This is entirely up to you!

May I take Communion?

We invite all who “love [Christ], earnestly repent of their sin, and seek to be at peace with one another” to join us at the Lord’s Supper. You do not need to be a member of Buncombe Street or a member of a United Methodist Church to take Communion with us. It’s Christ’s table, not ours!

Where do my kids go?

We offer child care for children ages eight weeks to K-4. Our nursery is staffed with trained, paid professionals as well as parent volunteers.

Our Downtown Campus offers Sunday School for all ages at 10:00 AM.

Will my children be safe?

The Children’s Ministry’s top priority is to ensure the safety of every child attending our church activities. Our secure system produces badges for all children and parents. Personnel can identify and confirm the location of a child at any time as well as access parent provided information including known allergies.  This system exists for all children from infancy through fifth grade.

Where can I park?

Both campuses feature adjacent parking lots. You can find more information about parking at the Downtown Campus here and more about parking at the Trinity Campus here.

Where do I go once I’m inside?

Volunteers greet and direct people arriving at every entrance.

If you have kids, go to the children’s entrance located on the Buncombe Street side of the church, and the people there will get your kids signed in and placed where they belong. They will then get you to where you want to go.

At the Trinity campus, you will be greeted outside and inside the front doors of the sanctuary. From there, the children’s check-in is through the right-side door at the front of the Sanctuary.

What will I be expected to do during the worship service?

Enjoy yourself and feel the presence of God around you! We do stand at times and pray at times. The order of worship is there for you in the bulletin of our traditional service for guidance. You’re in the presence of God; you can’t mess anything up!

What’s the next step?

Okay, so you’ve been attending, you’ve filled out the pew card, you’ve been contacted, and you believe it’s time for you to join. Great! The next step is the Engage Class.

ENGAGE is a four-session class that meets Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM in the Truluck Room of the Downtown Campus. Over the four sessions, we want to help participants find their place, their purpose, their family, and their next step within Buncombe Street.
