Journey to the Cross

The Christian faith is best understood through Holy Week - a week filled with holy mysteries. Join us this year for "Journey to the Cross," a video offering a multisensory experience of the week leading up to the crucifixion. Rev. Karen Jones will be our guide as we prepare our hearts for Easter by walking in the footsteps of Jesus as he journeys to the cross.

Plan Your Journey

Begin your journey to the cross with the following steps:

  1. Download the Journey to the Cross Guide. This guide is a supplement to the YouTube video.
  2. Gather the following materials:
    • Candle
    • Lighter/matches
    • Bread
    • Juice
    • Cups (have enough cups for everyone in the room)
    • Vinegar
    • Q-Tips & saucer (optional)
  3. Prepare your materials by gathering them on a table in front of you. Do not light the candle yet; you will be instructed in the video when to light it. Put the bread on a serving plate and pour the juice into the cups. The vinegar can either be poured into a shallow bowl or saucer or, when the time comes, can be poured into the same cups that were previously used to drink the juice. You just need enough vinegar for a taste.

Watch the Video

The video is available above and on the Buncombe Street UMC YouTube channel.

“Journey to the Cross” is suitable for all ages and can be experienced individually, in families, or in small groups.

Engage in Supplemental Reflections

Throughout the video, you will pause to participate in various activities. During this time, feel free to engage in the Supplemental Reflections listed in the Journey to the Cross guide. Take the time you need to pray, to listen, and to ponder before resuming the video. This is a spiritual journey and need not be rushed.
