Choral Evensong: September 25

Join the Chancel Choir on Sunday afternoon, September 25, for a Choral Evensong celebrating The Feast of St. Michael and All Angels (Michaelmas), at 5:00 PM in the Downtown Sanctuary.

In the Medieval Church, Michaelmas celebrated the Archangel Michael for defeating Lucifer and his angels in the war in heaven, while petitioning God’s protection of His people as the days grew shorter. The brief service of 45 minutes features liturgy, prayers, scripture readings, music, and message, offering the opportunity to gather and spend time in prayer, quiet contemplation and thanksgiving for the many ways in which God watches over us. Our honored, special guests for Evensong will be members from local law enforcement who work tirelessly to protect us. And there will be a special reception afterwards in the Lobby, where we can personally thank them for their service.

Historically, Choral Evensong was a rich part of Traditional Worship here at Buncombe Street, and the Chancel Choir is glad to bring it back to the people of our parish after some 45 years. In addition to this service, we will offer two additional Choral Evensong worship experiences this year: a Lenten Evensong, and an Evensong to celebrate the Festival of the Ascension.
