Shell Gallery Fall Art Show: Lou Ellen Beckham-Davis

A native of Greenville, Lou Ellen attended Eastside High School and the Greenville County Fine Arts Center. She was a part of the Fine Arts Center during its second year of operation. In 1983, she graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in graphic design. She also played softball on an athletic scholarship all four years of college.

In 1987, she graduated from Louisiana State University with a Master of Fine Arts in stained glass. A constant in her life, Lou Ellen picked up stained glass when she was 15 and is now an artist and owner of a stained glass studio, LEB Glass Studio LLC.

She currently designs and collaborates the construction, restoration and installation of stained and leaded glass windows. She also enjoys teaching at the studio. Her designs include both contemporary and traditional stained glass for homes, businesses or churches. Most of the work is traditionally leaded and sometimes enhanced with special techniques such as sandblasting and hand painting. L.E.B. Glass Studio stocks over 1400 different kinds of stained glass. They also sell tools and supplies to students and other hobbyists.

A longtime member, she got married to her husband Jimmy 31 years ago here at BSUMC and has one son, Wesley Davis. She has even worked on some of our stained glass windows!

There will be a reception to see Lou Ellen’s work on Sunday, September 11 from 3:00 – 4:30 PM in the Shell Gallery of our Downtown Campus. Her collection includes paintings of her stained glass work and actual stained glass pieces. Some will be available for purchase, and light refreshments will be served.
